VALENTINA DUBASKY'S MONGOLIAN HORSES
Web Project

Valentina DuBasky
October 17 - December 23, 2009

We are raising money for Valentina DuBasky to assist her in making another trip to the Silk Route Countries. On these forays she gains insight and inspiration for her work.

The trips also give her the opportunity to bring the "gift of art" to struggling people and children via her charity, "Art in a Box."

To accomplish this both I and the artist have agreed to sell her marvelous paintings based on the horses of Mongolia, at a very fetching discounts.

This is the Artist's Statement for this project.

"Visiting Artist on the Silk Route in Tajikistan, Turkmenistan
and Uzbekistan"

I will visit cultural, archaeological, sacred and environmental sites along the Silk Route, including projects supported by the United States Ambassador's Fund for Cultural Conservation.

The goal is to create art in response to these sites for a new series of paintings.
I will meet with artists, educators and conservators in Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan for cultural exchange and will promote the role of contemporary artists in raising awareness of the need to support cultural conservation initiatives.

I will also conduct art workshops for students in the region through Art in a Box, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization I founded and direct in order to empower communities in need or at risk through art and art education (www.artinabox.org).

Along the way I will also draw and paint horses-the breed that Alexander the Great rode across Central Asia, the tea-route horses of Tibet and those ridden by Chinese Emperors that are depicted in the painted caves along the Silk Route-as well as migrating cranes and snow leopards...
